Uttarakhand is a state suffering from immense financial crisis with a total annual earning of rupees 19 thousand crores out of the overall expenditure of rupees forty thousand crores. However the income of Rs seven thousand crores is derived from the state’s own resources.

This means the state that became independent 17 years ago with the sole objective to become an economically self reliant state is actually in the grip of immense financial mess n quandary compounded with the financial burden of additional eleven thousand crores given as credit to the peasents n agriculture sector of the state.

This wasc revealed by the state’s chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today while addressing the mediamen n invitees at the book launch function organised at Uttarakhand Sadan in New Delhi as the chief guest accompanied by Mr. Baluni, national convenor of BJP’s national media department n MLA from Lansedown, Garhwal Dilip Rawat. Though the book launch function was slated for 3 pm. but the CM arrived one a a half hour late due to his hectic preoccupation at an Uttarayani function, an organisation of retired officers of Uttarakhand in Delhi attended by the NSA Ajit Doval n the Army chief Vipin Rawat. Addressing the mediamen Rawat announced, his government has finalised plans to open a Palayan AYOG OF UTTARAKHAND shortly n wud by all means provide electricity through solar panels to the remaining 1lakh 50 thousand house holds of Uttarakhand on the ocassion of Deepawali festival. He added that special emphasis would be laid to give power to the distant border villages who’ ve been deprived of electricity for the last seven decades since India gaining independence.

Comparing Uttarakhand’s development with Jharkhand, ( the state of which he was the observer for three years) and which came into separate existence with Uttarakhand simultaneously, Rawat said that despite Jharkhand having more than 23% of the wealth of precious minerals including valuable plutonium, its 52 blocks are still bereft/ devoid of a single college or educational institution where as Uttarakhand despite running a fiscal deficit economy has constructed twenty degree colleges, medical n technical institutes after attaining the separate state entity with majority of them having been constructed during the BJP rule. Emphasising on fighting corruption from the grass roots, Rawat said – the need today is to inculcate in us a feeling of honesty, integrity n commitment towards the development of the state. Expressing his grave concern over increasing unemployment he assured that his government is seriously working on plans to provide employment to maximum number of women at the decentralised panchayat level to empower the women community of the state. Chief Minister Rawat complimented the matra shakti, youths, government employees n all the sections of the Uttrakhand society for their infinite support to the separate hill state cause n said that it was only due to the united efforts of one and all that we were finally successful in achieving this long pending goal of separate state in the year 2000. He congratulated the author of the book on Uttarakhand movement journalist Harish Lakhera and assured the audience that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Uttarakhand witnesses an all round development n financial stability in the years to come.
